The PGA Tour’s final warmup before the Masters, the Golf Club of
Houston provides a similar test to that of the game’s most revered stop.
Lightning-quick, undulating putting surfaces are the icing (with an
extra side of sarcasm) to cupcake fairway layout. The Shell Houston
Open’s venue ranks among the most punitive to scramble from the rough if
the short grass is missed.
Distance is important, given the lengthy presentation, but knowing
where to miss is arguably the most profound strength a pro can take with
him into competition. Fantasy gamers will be rewarded for choosing
consistently accurate ball strikers into the green, and it won’t hurt to
include some of the finer putters in the field.
This type of design is ideal for Dallas native
as illustrated by his playoff loss last year before winning at Augusta
the next week. However, his relatively suspect play of late has to leave
gamers with doubts.
The leading up to the event, with a chance to creep into the opening
morning. This could lead to low numbers on a soft course. Regardless,
the rest of the expected weather is conducive to success.
